Shift 1st to reverse is the hardest on the shift. Good test. If you have any problems, that's where to see.

My problem with the clutch: 1996 Ford Ranger. I couldn't shift gears at 79,250 (Southern California stop/go freeway miles), so I had Ford do the job. I wanted to, but just don't have the facilities (house). It would have been fun. Labor $415, Slave $87.20, Dsc asy $72.38, press $82.06, pull shift & inspect $12.30, 3 qt tran. fluid $2.59, resurface fly wheel $45.00. Text reads "Replaced cluch disc, pressure plate, slave cylinder, pilot bearing, resurfaced flywheel, serviced transmission, checked operation and road test." It ran so smooth. With that slave cylinder/hydraulic piston that is really a heavy duty truck item, It was engauging way up high. It felt weird after 6yrs of wear. Then 2 days after the job, friction point 2" off the floor. I'm back to Ford tomorrow to talk to them. I've got 12,000 miles on this clutch warranty. But in my mind, it won't last another 80,000 because something doesn't work like it did when I drove it off. Did the new slave cylinder crap out? Hope it helps.
