What is KEVLAR®?

KEVLAR® is a space-age material designed by DuPont Industries for HIGH STRESS applications.

KEVLAR®, with its superior resistance to heat and wear, has strength far greater than any other reinforcing material.  It has been used for bullet-proof vests and composite body parts for the racing and aerospace industries.

This material has been used in industrial applications for fifteen years - and with outstanding results.  Because of demanding industrial needs, a friction material that would last, as well as not wear-out the mating surface was needed.

KEVLAR®, with its resistance to high temperatures, coupled with an extremely low wear rate on opposing surfaces, has made it the friction material of choice.

The Properties of KEVLAR® 

KEVLAR® is one of the most important manmade fibers ever developed. Because of its unique combination of properties, KEVLAR® is used today in a wide variety of industrial applications. KEVLAR® para-aramid fiber possesses a remarkable combination of properties that has led to its adoption in a variety of end-uses since its commercial introduction in the early 1970's.

Fibers of KEVLAR® consist of long molecular chains produced from poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide. The chains are highly oriented with strong interchain bonding which result in a unique combination of properties.
